Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal data test Motors collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

test Motors ("we", "us") is the data controller for personal data collected through our website, sales process, and customer correspondence. Our registered address is 6 Kidd Road, Chichester, PO19 6YF. Company number 292929292929; VAT number CH6767676767.

What we collect

• Vehicle enquiry details — name, email, phone, the vehicle you enquired about, and your message
• Test drive bookings — date / time / branch, plus the driving licence number we record at the test drive itself
• Reservation details — name, contact details, and (via Stripe) the card token used for the deposit
• Finance application details — name, date of birth, address, employment, income, marital status, and consents to the lender soft search (where applicable)
• Part-exchange details — your VRM, the spec we look up against the DVLA / cap hpi databases, and any photos you send us
• Sale records — invoice details, payment record, and any post-sale correspondence
• Site usage — IP address + user agent in our access logs (security purposes only); no third-party advertising trackers

Why we process it

• To respond to your enquiry and complete a sale where relevant (lawful basis: contract / pre-contract steps)
• To run regulated finance soft searches and submit applications you've consented to (lawful basis: consent)
• To meet our regulatory obligations (FCA Consumer Duty, anti-money-laundering, HMRC margin-scheme record-keeping) — lawful basis: legal obligation
• To send marketing about other vehicles or offers — only when you've opted in (lawful basis: consent)

Sharing

We share your data only as necessary:

• Finance lenders on our panel, when you ask for a soft search or submit a finance application
• Insurance providers for any insurance product we arrange on your behalf
• HMRC as required by law for sale records and VAT
• Our service providers — website hosting (4court), email (Resend), payments (Stripe), analytics (privacy-first, no profiling). All bound by data processing agreements.

We never sell your data to third parties.

Retention

• Enquiries that don't lead to a sale — kept for 24 months in case you re-engage, then deleted
• Sale records — kept for 6 years from the end of the relevant tax year (HMRC requirement)
• Finance application data — kept for 6 years (FCA requirement)
• Marketing consents — kept while active; revocations honoured immediately

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Have your data erased (subject to legal retention obligations above)
• Restrict or object to our processing
• Data portability (receive your data in a structured format)
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk
